Disease microenvironments

Our methods.

Diseased tissues, including those dysregulated by cancer and infectious pathogens, consist of complex microenvironments. Our research program exploits bioengineering tools to synthesize disease microenvironments ex vivo to characterize the role of individual cues, to interrogate the disease microenvironment in situ, and to perturb the disease by delivering therapeutic cargo that penetrates the disease microenvironment in vivo.

Taken together, our work has developed a new class of activity based nanosensors (ABNs) composed of peptide-derived nanoparticles with unprecedented sensitivity and specificity, with numerous implications for disease detection and monitoring as well as therapeutic delivery.
